With 10354 miles on my truck in 6 months most of them on the highway. I have noticed pretty consistantly that cars around me will be picked off by highway patrol officers for speeding. Even though I am speeding right along with them. So, I began to think about why it keeps happening. Is it because the the mostly composite front end of the truck. Or because the truck is so large in relative comparison to other cars and trucks on the road. That it causes an optical illusion like trying to judge an approching freight trains speed.

Well your lucky I guess I've been pulled over 12 times in 11 months of ownership. Only actually got 2 tickets but I did deferred for one and defensive driving for the other so I dont have any on my record.

Must be the blacked out stealthy look of the truck.. I have been stopped by local police numerous times. For speeding, tinted windows, driving on closed road, public display of speed/racing and just to look at the truck. On the highways I have been left alone..(knock on wood) so far..

Its called deffered ajudication you basically pay the ticket and get a 90 day probation period. If you dont get a ticket in the 90 days it doesnt go on your record.

I read a study a few months back that people with nicer vehicles get let off more from tickets. I searched for it but can't find it.

After reading this post I called my friend who is a Florida highway patrol. Put the question to him as to how he picks a certain vehicle out of a pack to ticket for speeding. He said it is to him a matter of who stands out more even if they are all going the same speed. So I said does color matter, he said yes because the brighter the color the more higher profile that vehicle is. Also factors are if one vehicle is following too closely,or changing lanes with no turn signal. Said he does not pick on anyone, but has his own factors that decides who gets the stopped. Also most importantly. Said if you act like a ass and are disrespectful your chances go up. Jack
