FYI...This might be a long post.

I have been creeping on the form for a few years now and finally become a member. I have always wanted a raptor but have never pulled the trigger (I hate spending large chunks of money) but I figured once I was spending that kind of money, I would buy the truck I want.

There is a 2012 in town with 118K and an asking price of $30,900. I have posted the pictures below (none of the interior but it is super clean too). The exterior is super clean. Only minor scratches from normal use. There are no major dents on the skid plates so most likely it was never taken off road.

There were two previous owners. Based on the Carfax the first owner took it into the Ford Dealership about every 5000 miles (up to 60K miles). The 2nd owner (from 60K to 118K miles) took it in maybe once. Doesn't mean he didn't do any work himself.

If I get a little more serious, I will take it into a shop to do a full 3rd party inspection.

I have two major questions:

1) Is this is a fair asking price? I would probably offer in the range of $28,500 or lower (based on your expertise). Also, there is another 2013 raptor, super clean as well, about two hours form me. It has 46K miles and is priced at $39K just for reference. The extra $10K might be worth the 1/3 less miles and wear and tear.

2) I plan on immediately having the shocks rebuilt with viton seals, flutter stacks, etc. from Fordged Offroad. I have read those upgrades tend to fix the rear wheel hop, etc. I know roughly $5K is a lot for an upgrade to King or Icon but I can't seem to find anywhere on the internet for when the King's or Icon's need to be rebuilt. I wouldn't mind upgrading the suspension if it means saving money in rebuilding down the road (roughly every 50K miles for the FOX vs ???K for the King/Icon). This would be my DD so I would not do much, if any, off roading.

Appreciate any feedback.

Jason

That mileage is a little high for 31K if you ask me. The gen1 guys might be able to shed some more light on what to look for specifically, but generally the truck looks clean. I think personally for that mileage I’d want to be under 25k but it is a Raptor - again, I’ll defer on the market pricing of the used trucks.

oh - and welcome to FRF

That is the one thing I struggle with, Raptors holding their value so well. Price seems to be a little sporadic. I would think something under 25K seems reasonable as well. Just based on the other Raptor that is close by for $39K with only 46K miles, I would probably go with that one.

I don't mind mileage since I plan on keeping the truck for a while, just don't want to pay an arm and a leg for it just because it's a raptor.

Thanks for the feedback!

I would look for a 13 or higher if you plan on going off road at all. Ford added a reinforced rear frame at the bump stop unless you are planning to add aftermarket bump stop if that then a 10-12 would do just fine. My 12 was ok stock but I wasnt happy until I added 3.0s after that it was badass :).

I know location plays a big factor but I just paid 26k for my 2010 with 86k miles. Super clean all stock and 9 pages worth of carfax maintenance. Hope this helps as a reference.

I have seriously been debating 3.0s or King/Icon (I don't even have a Raptor yet however I have a list of things I want to install)!

I have heard the 3.0s are a big upgrade over the OEM shocks. Do they still have to be rebuilt around 50K miles (assuming 100% off road)?

Did you keep the stock leaf springs?

Yeah, location does play a big factor in value. KBB, Nada are ok valuation tools but When looking at the market on Raptors in the classifieds here, cargurus.com, Autotrader.com, or Autolist.com

I find they hold there value very well but considering the example you stated, it comes in a little high with the mileage factor. I would hold out for now. Good luck searching.
