How do you protect your spare tire from doing this?

The rubber is actually starting to pit and deteriorate.

Unless your exhaust is close maybe a standard jeep style cover might help?

Is that from being up against rust? If so, stop the rusting with Amsoil MPHD.

It almost looks like abrasion. Post a pic of where the tire is up against the frame.

You should also give the tire a few heavy coats of Tire Shine to help seal up the rubber.

Well.... this is my second spare, so it doesn't get rotated in.

The SW Exhaust is close, won't be able to fit anything around the tire like a cover.

Yeah, it's rust alright. Tire shine.... always something to buy from Adam's. Lol....

And I used the rest of my MPHD last night on my springs. Time for more.

So looking underneath there was some slight surface rust.
I hit it with a wire brush and then some marine grease.
Gotta order some more MPHD from @Chris@FreedomMotorsports.

You could make some thin plastic spacers to put between the tire and the frame. I am going to look into this idea soon

How does it look (pics?) after hitting it with the wire brush ?

That 2nd pic looked pretty gnarly - did it compromise the integrity of the tire's sidewall or was it only superficial after cleaning it up?

The hands were a bit covered in grease so I didn't get a pic. But the surface of the frame wasn't all that rusty.

The side wall has some small pits in it. I don't think at this point that it is compromised. But I'd like to stop it from getting worse.
