I installed a Volant Intake system. At 1200 to 1800 rpms ; when at highway cruise speeds and not when under full acceleration, I had a very bad "drone". The drone was not from the exhaust, it was from the intake. It was annoying. I also loss MPG verified by several same trip test. I checked all the fittings and made sure the MAS was not leaking, but nothing helped. So, I removed the Volant and went back to the stock box with a K&N. I did not have a tune in it.
I liked the look and the design of the Volant, I thought that it was really a cool air box as most CAI are open and only drawing hot air from under the hood.

you may like it,,,try it. First Ford has the same truck as mine, he installed a volant and it didnt drone at all. From what I have read, the 5.4 will need a tune for the CAI? Do you have a tune in it now?

Nice, what kind of deal did you get ?

I love mine. Its definitely the best looking intake. I never got drone, it is pretty loud when you floor it but I never really notice that because my exhaust is just as loud.

Install is very easy, heres my write up if you want to look it over - http://www.fordraptorforum.com/f23/volant-cai-install-142/

No, you shouldn't need one. If you unhook the negative from your battery for 15mins, the computer will reset and learn the new set up.

This is unnecessary. I had a very revealing and informative telephone conversation with one of the engineers at AIRAID. Although the AIRAID instructions tell you to pull the negative battery cable, he advised that it wasn't necessary. He said that the data refresh rate of our trucks is so high that the truck will very rapidly learn any new intake parameters. When I installed my AIRAID I followed his advice and did not unhook the battery. There were no ill effects whatsoever, and I am convinced that he was right.

I have the Volant CAI on my rig along with the 5 star tune and the Borla exhaust. No drone problems. Can't really tell about the MPG one way or the other. The tune definitely made a difference with the transmission and I like how the CAI cleaned up the look on the inside of the engine compartment by getting rid of a bunch of plastic. It was expensive so unless I got a good deal like you, I'm not sure if I would spend the dough on a CAI if I had to do it all over again.
