I think it sounds like a crappy 90s GM V6, which is about as good as a ricer in my book. I like this truck, but IMO it sounds bad. Didn't keep me from buying it, but if someone thinks the noise it makes is going to get a gearhead to turn their head because it sounds badass, they're kidding themselves. It's something about the interaction between the firing order, the angle of the V, the intake sounds masked. Likely nothing can be done to make it sound good, just louder. Hell, we were discussing Gen2 Raptor sounds on other enthusiast forums well before I bought one (this truck gets a lot of attention among sports cars guys); the opinion is unanimous, the sound is unfortunate. Worse than what was done to the M3 exhaust, and that one gets GIFs comparing it with a lawnmower droning... That said, I do like hearing the turbos do their thing with the windows down. WRT aftermarket exhausts, even if the power is unchanged, although it's in a suboptimal location for it, they can save some weight which can offset something like a set of Deavers.
