Ok here's those carbon fiber discs, and the gears that ride on them. The question was asked about "clutch plates"; if you ask an engineer, these are "clutch plates". To the rest of us, they're bearing surfaces. When I think of a "clutch" I think of something that rubs on something else to get a third thing to move. That's NOT what's going on here. There are NO "clutch" plates in the Wavetrac differential. Instead these carbon "stars" are simply what the gear ends ride on. The question of "tuning" was also asked. Yep, you definitely can tune the Wavetrac. How? You play with those carbon plates; Wavetrac sells/works with you to select the carbon surface that best suits your application and needs and can preinstall or send in the mail replacement stars with the desired carbon surface installed. Swap in those stars and now you're "tuned". Realize though, the way the Wavetrac comes out of the box is set up for the other 99.9% of us who can't tell a difference of 1 or 2% in bias ratios.
