I think you are asking yourself the wrong question. Does it matter if you are "using the truck for what it was built for"? As long as you are happy, enjoy the vehicle, and it does what you need, does it matter what it was built for? The right question, to me, is "would another vehicle make me happier"? And in my case, no. I do live in the desert, but I do not, typically, use the Raptor the way people advertise it. I do use it often off road, probably several times a week on average, but I have never had it air-borne on purpose. My off road tends to be slow and crawly. Really, for my off-road use, something like the Jeep Rubicon Hard Rock, Toyota Tacoma PRO, or Chevrolet Colorado ZR2 would fit better than the Raptor. However, I have driven all of those options (in picking my truck) and while they may have been slightly better for my off road application they were not anywhere near as much fun, or comfortable, on road. The Raptor is the best all around truck I have ever owned. I have owned trucks that hauled more, I have owned trucks that fit my off-road driving better, my wife hates trying to park it, and I for damn sure have owned trucks that got better gas mileage. But I can honestly say, I have owned few vehicles, and no new vehicles in recent years, that make me smile as much and that I look forward to taking on trips as much as the Raptor. The off-road suspension works great off-road, but it also makes the on-road ride fantastic, compared to most trucks. The seats are simply great. The performance is exceptional. The technology is very supportive and keeps me free from fatigue on long over-the-road trips. I have had my 2018 for about 10 months now. I have 22k miles on it. And if it went away tomorrow I would go get a new one the next day. Don't get me wrong, I am open to another vehicle if that vehicle makes me happier, over all, not just in limited sets of factors, than the Raptor. So far I have not found one that does so. Now, if they do a Raptorized version of the new Bronco, or if the Ranger Raptor comes to the US (with more HP than the existing Ranger Raptor), or if the rumored Highboy has a decent on-road ride...or if someone else comes out with a vehicle that is similarly impressive to the Raptor, then I will re-assess. But for right now the Raptor is what I want, and what I like, genuinely enjoy, to drive. T!
