Gonna get #Nerd on it, forgive me if you know of these things already. Some things to ponder: •Why do you need this? Is it for interior fires, brakes, an engine bay fire? Is it just to check a box for needed equipment for off-roading? *Having been present at many car fires, including an F-150 completely engulfed in flames, I can tell you this 5.5lb extinguisher will do nothing for any of these unless it is something you catch immediately. **In addition, new vehicles are chock full of magnesium. Magnesium is usually located in brakes, steering columns, and many other places that a 5.5lb extinguisher won’t have the power to put out. **Magnesium is extremely difficult to extinguish regardless of the method of extinguishment. Usually copious amounts of water is the preferred method. If you do happen to encounter a magnesium fire, use as much water as possible. Don’t stop even when it turns into a ginormous flash of white fireball. • If it makes a difference, on car fires our FD normally brings a 20lb dry chem as a back up to the water we use on the car. Yes, they make a mess, but they work well. * We usually pump these in the gas tank to prevent it from becoming a bigger problem than we already have. The vehicle is usually toast by this point anyway. Just something to think about. This extinguisher would work well if your phone charger caught on fire, but I would look into something larger to put in the bed/backseat if you’re worried about a serious fire that occurs away from civilization or the nearest fire hydrant. Hope that helps!
