Bump just keeping th thread alive even though I know its still early on. Any info on what is actually the missing component of the heated steering system would be very helpful. In the winter time in NYC I drive with heated steering wheel every time, so it quite important.
@NCBen great work so far, proper approach to diagnosing the problem.
This whole saga still blows my mind on lack of available replacement parts, and a permanent fix by Ford, for an increasingly common problem, especially since its been going on for at least 10 years...
My truck sold last week so I didn't get to the end of this saga. Already miss it, still an amazing machine even with the little problems it had. Honestly, the lack of parts availability on common items like the heated seat element is what appalled me most. Cars break, its normal. You go buy...
Received my heating element from Tasca but of course they sent the wrong one - replacement for the back instead of the bottom of the seat. They are the ones that changed the order to the "correct" part number for the VIN. Will have to get the right one now, the saga continues.
Small update - Tasca needed to special order the part, but at least they didn't say its not available like before! Hopefully i'll get it withing next two weeks.
I've run them for about 2k miles and couldn't be happier. Noise was primary concern for me and have to say they are very reasonable in that department. Also overall grip in any conditions is very good too, including snow. Highly recommend so far.
They are anything but weak when operating normally. There is a theory that they run so hot they burn out, with people reporting very hot seats before they go bad.
You are right, and I am usually not the one to generalize. I will share where my claim comes from then. My truck heated seat went out last December. My biz partner's Gen 1 had his second heating element go bad last year as well. Another buddy had the same problem on his F350. So maybe its not...
Driver's side stopped working. Heater elements have not been available since last year to fix the problem. Admittedly I haven't looked in last couple of months.
This has been a consistent problem on Gen 2s, and Gen 1 before that. And in general it has been a problem on Ford vehicles. How many...
I am only at 95k miles now as my parking spot in the city was closed down and I am not willing to pay $1k/month to store it elsewhere. Related to this I will likely be selling the truck soon as it gets no use now.
Just checked with Tasca and parts are still on backorder with no ETA. Granted this is uncharted territory with COVID19, but how the heck were these parts not available for so long beforehand? Blows my mind that this is a current generation truck and simple parts are not available for it.
Looks like i have highest mile truck here with 93k on my second hand 2018.
Problems since I bought it:
1 Intermittent inoperable navigation system - doesn't work 90% of the time. Need to update SYNC and hoping it will fix problem, although i am sure it wont. Not a huge bother as i always use...
Sorry for your poor experience @SlickMachine. I have same problem with heated seat not working. Do you happen to have the part numbers of the items that were replaced, specifically the element and the control module? Thank in advance
