Living in the PNW, I drive 90+ days a year on wet roads and I’ve driven the Raptor since 17. The problem with the BFG’s comes when the temperature is cold- 30-40 degrees and wet. That’s most of the rainy season around here. Traction is the real problem. Passing at highway speed will easily send...
The stock BFG’s are a good all around tire but a master of none! If you spend half the year on wet roads like I do, stay away - far away- from the BFG’s. If you want snow performance consider the Nokian hakkapeliita, they easily out perform the BFG’s on snow and ice. The DuraTrac’s come in...
JeanCo, The 10R80 transmission is programmed to skip gears, ie- 1st to third, second to fifth or even when down shifting it will hesitate for a second or two searching for the right gear before it takes off. It’s fords way to improve fuel economy, but results in delays in throttle response...
Be happy with what you got. Quite frankly, an untuned Gen2 raptor sucks. The transmission has problems skipping and slamming gears. It feels like you are destroying the truck. Had to bring mine in twice to reset the “learning” on the transmission. Throttle response (delay) , is a problem on...
Yes, I really hated the delay in throttle response and combined with a transmission searching for the right gear or hard shifting gears made the driving experience less than great. Goose tune with TCM fixed all of that.
Yes, it made a huge, huge difference. In addition to a ECU tune, I also got a custom “transmission” or TCM tune. No more skipped gears, slow down shifts or the really annoying intermittent 5 or for me 3 gear pounding shifts.
Tried keeping my 17 in sport mode for several months. Liked it a little more but didn’t like how the transmission would hold gears or shift hard at inappropriate times. I had the dealer do updates and reset the transmission learning. Went to pedal commander for another almost 30k. It helped a...
Welcome to the stock 10 speed “learning” transmission. The dealer can reset the transmission back to original (unlearn) and it will get rid of the harsh shifting- especially the clunking from R to D. Sadly it will eventually come back again in a few thousand. If it had a good TCM tune...
Goose 1 to Goose 2. Thinking about replacing the stock IC, colder plugs and have Winfield update my stage 1 to stage 2. For those who have went this route, is there a significant difference? is it mostly up on top gains?
Agree on the duratracs, they are much better than KO2 on wet roads and mud. I also like them better than the KO2 in snow. In sand-aired down, I liked the KO2 better. The duratracs only come in load D so I run them around 36 otherwise they ride a little firmer than C rated tires.
Ok, why didn’t someone tell me sooner. Bought a gen 2 when it came out. Hated the throttle delay. Put a peddle commander on it. Still had the delay and felt like like a throttle on/off switch. Cam phasers at 38k. Now at 58k with horrible clunking and delayed shifting. Best Ford could do is...
I would guess the 20’s are adding significantly to the noise. My wife’s Audi S5 with 35 series performance street tires have far more road noise than anything I’ve had on the Raptor. Less sidewall will transmits more road noise along with the benefit of more road feel. It’s why you go with...
I bought the gen 2 when they came out in 17. I have 60k on the Raptor all in the Pacific Northwest (Portland). That means I have driven at least 365 days and 25,000 miles in the rain on KO2’s and Duratrac’s. There is simply no question that new, or well worn KO2’s are terrible on wet roads...
