Ike the title says....which one will give me more usable light while out on the trails.

A 20inch unobstructed in my bumper or a 30inch behind the grille??

Mind you I already have a 40inch M&R. Looking to supplement it.

The 20" in the bumper gives a lot of light. I would say the 20 over 30. An unofficial test here showed a 40% loss of light behind the grille. So take the lumens of the 30 subtract 40% then compare that number to the full lumen rating of the 20. That will answer your Q

I'd say go with the 20" if your state allows no plates

Or the 30" if you like the discrete look

You might consider the Vision X 21" Xmitter Prime Xtreme for the lower grill. It has 17,748 lumens, 2,748 more than your 40" bar and none of it is blocked by the grill.

I went with the 20" M&R in the lower grill, here in Alaska it stays dark a lot and off-roading with it is amazing.... Best decision I've made
