Chris,

The Toyo MT tires weigh 79.4 lbs.
35X13.50R15LT 114Q C/6 361000 8.50-11.0 34.8 14.4 21 79.4

The weight of the BFG A/T KO tires is in forum somewhere

I think Chris has 20 in wheels not 15s. lol The weight of the stock BFGs is in this thread but it may not be right. The source Tire Rack IIRC has the 315 Raptor spec tire as being heavier then the normal 315 tire.

79.4 lbs. wasn't close enough for you LOL - how about 80.5 lbs for the 20"?

35X12.50R20LT 121Q E/10 360240 8.5-10.0-11.0 35 13 21 80.5

Raptor size tires are about 66 lbs. per Tire Rack's site (note the "Not Rated for Severe Snow"):

315/70R17
121/118S D Not Rated For Severe Snow None 3195 lbs.
50 psi
17/32"
66lbs. 8.5-10"

10.4"
34.5"

And the comparable Toyo Open Country M/T tire is about 82.7 lbs.

I almost pulled the trigger on a set of these the other day, but the guy at the tire shop said that his customers were giving them bad reviews. Not sure if it's just a fluke that a group of idiots would buy these tires from the same shop. He said they were complaining about them wearing out within a year of being purchased.

What I want to know is will they "chunk" like these BFG's? I'm probably misisng 40% of my tread from chunking. I've had some Goodyears on my old 4x4 that hardly had any chunking issues, and that's with driving it like it was a Raptor.

Hmm that doesn't sound right. These haven't been generally available for a year (I don't think?)

Can't speak to the chunking issue. Interested myself...

I don't think the Grabbers have been out for a year. And unless you were at a Four wheel parts store, the guy you spoke with is probably giving you some B.S. or thinking of a different tire. (Four Wheel Parts was the exclusive distributor for the first few months, IIRC)

I can confirm the stock BFG's do chunk off road. I'll probably squeeze 30k out of them but they definitely look like they've run Baja 30 times... lots of chunks missing.

+4 on the chunks

It's noticeable to the eye but it's nowhere near 40% missing.

I'm sure I'll get 30,000 miles out of my tires (maybe more) which isn't bad considering all the offroading and rocks I've driven over.

I've not seen BFG T/A KO's do this before so I wonder if it's because of the different (Raptor only) tread composition?

Yeah maybe It's not quite 40% but it's pretty bad regardless. Good to hear I'm not the only one that is seeing this problem. From one of my sources these specific tires have a softer compound which makes them prone to chunking. Ford has to please all Raptor owners, not just us desert types. The softer compound was better all around off roading.

x6 chunks.

Ive got 42k on my tires, and they are still in decent shape. Debating on getting a set of Generals or sticking with the BFGs. Opinions?
