I bought a headlight, off of a 2010 F-150, just to try the oven method & boy, was I glad I did! Burnt my arm, stab my hand numerous times, broke 2 posts off the back, cracked the backing & only got the thing half way off.....:emotions133:
Not my idea of a typical way to spend a Sunday.
All in all, it was a cheap way ($100) to determine NOT to try it with my original lights!

Thanks for the tip on the aftermarkets

hahahaha. im sorry, but that made me laugh so hard. at least you had the common sense to try it out before you did it to your headlights on the truck. so, does that mean you arent going to service my bike now?

The stockers were ridiculous to take apart it took me 4-5 heat cycles to finally get them apart, I ordered some butyl sealant and used that to put them back together. I have no idea how Dawson does so many he must have it down the a science. I'd like to do a second set for myself since my first was plain jane without any paint but I'm dreading pulling apart another set.

If you want me to retrofit your headlight...HELL NO!
Other than that, you got till June & I'm outta here

@M64D - I noticed another thing....Those clips that hold the reflector on are a real PITA too!

Yes, not fun at all. After the reflectors were painted was when the fun part of watching them come together. But yes, not sure how Dawson does the stock headlights. I did two heat cycles and that stuff wouldn't budge. It looked to be more of a silicon sealant than a butyl rubber. The butyl is messy to deal with but works great and its re-seal-able.

Ford uses what we call "permaseal" , it has a much higher melting point then regular butyl. Its definitely a PITA. Ill share my tip, took me about 50 sets to figure it out, lol - 230 degrees for 25 min. You can get a screwdriver under the corners and pry the lens away. then you have to go around digging the permaseal out of the channel, I use a heat gun to keep it warm.

The OE headlights are much easier to pull apart but are not the same quality as the oem's.

Yeah, just got an email from TRS explaining the "permaseal" issue & they recommend 285 degrees for 23 minutes........OOOPS!

Live & learn!

They are definitely not as good as quality as the stocks. Once I get back from Havoc in the hills i'll be changing over to the stock headlights now that I know how to take them apart. Thanks Dawson.

New set with stock assembly

Okay, so I started on my stocks today taking them apart, and getting things blacked out, and all cuts and vents (thank you Dawson) completed. By the way I have a gas oven and 275 for 25 minutes is what ended up working for me. The lower temp wouldn't allow that perma-seal to break apart on mine. So on the side reflector instead of just a generic circle or opening on the side, I had two TRS vinyl decals laying there. Decided that would be the reflective opening. Now just waiting on the MH1 6.0's to come in and new amber Halo's. I cleaned up the one's I had at Havoc and I'm giving them to my Father. He wants them pretty bad.

If you got the kit from TRS, make sure everything fits & works BEFORE you start. My kit was junk. The halos didn't work, the bulbs & shroud did not fit on the projectors. Took a lot of modifying to make it work & still not happy with them or their "kit"
Definitely wouldn't display their logo
