There is a passive bypass valve.

Aside from that... it's a smaller, lighter, theoretically less restrictive muffler and resonator.

For the guys complaining about the price, that's what would make it worth while..

1) Bypass valve system gives you more noise under WOT, while retaining a drone free part-throttle sound. It costs money to have bypasses but it gives you best of both worlds.

2) Keeps a large resonator without a crossover pipe, that eliminates the raspy note that most of the catback systems have. I would assume Ford did this with the stock system because it sounds deeper and more truck-like.
