Some aftermarket bumpers do not require you to cut the horns. As far as litigation...it is always possible even if you were driving a tank. That whiplash injury can sometimes flair up only after you have received a call from a personal injury attorney!

So what happens if you don't cut off the frame horns when installing bumpers that call for it?

(This is my 3,000th FRF post.)

Not sure if your serious or joking.... Lol

But you cant even begin to install a "frame cutting required" bumper without cutting the frame. As they are made to sit further/higher into the truck. As with the SVC bumper, there's at least a good 6" worth of frame in the way that needs to be taken out before the bumper mounts will slide into mounting position. Not to mention the OEM bumper mounts on the front of the frame horns.

Airbags are NOT affected. Lots of cars have sensors built in the bumper and if a sensor takes a hit, the airbags are deployed. The raptor uses a system that deploys airbags due to rapid speed reduction. If you are cruising at 40mph and hit something your truck comes to a sudden stop and that deploys the airbag. I hope this makes sense.

How are airbags affected?

I was in an accident with one of ADDs first bumpers and it demolished the uninsured drivers car but only left some cosmetic damage on the bumper. Their car was totaled and my insurance was going to cover the repair of my bumper but it was only a few bucks more than my deductible so I decided to avoid putting a claim through.

In regards to trade in with cutting the frame I was told it was a no go simply because the local Ford dealer wants to get the vehicles certified when they bring them in. I'm sure a place like Carmax or some other type of dealer wouldn't know any better.

Id like to hear more opinions on the dealership thing. Maybe if someone could bring this to the ford technicians attention, i dont know their screen names.

Would it also bea no go if they were welded back on. My common sense tells me it woulld be the same as no horns at all.

my other question for collision damage is- by taking the horns off so many inches, is that leaving my engine bay and front only protected by the strength of the bolt? Does it move the point of true impact/not the bumper back to where it could cause more damage? If that makes sense.

and wreckless, the bumper i was going with is yours. I want the angle but i want it flush. I dont have many options if i keep it flush.

Is it worth the risk....cutting the FRAME? Each individual will have to choose and take that chance. I say NO, but I always error on the side of caution.

No need to ruin a Friday! Nothing like the joy of seeing fresh raptor parts bein ordered and delivered. I would say cutting the frame horns off for bumpers is becoming more popular in the raptor community. As guys begin to push these trucks more and more, they see the necessity of an increased approach angle . Which at the end of the day is saving money after the first head first oh s**t moment when offroading.
