So I'm at about 1000 Miles of trying to get my truck inspected with SW headers and exhaust and 5 star tune. I ended up having to get a 02 sensor replaced. This has been nothing short of a complete nightmare. Lesson learned getting headers and exhaust and a tune. Never again. Truck is still not inspected.


Did the inspection place give you the reasons for failure?
Do you have the error codes or any incomplete or missing data information on the inspection sheet.


Have contacted Mike at Five Star?


I also want to add that the stock OEM Tune will not work with LT headers and Hi-flow cats especially for an inspection.

Alright I'm trying to help and I hope this helps you guys with understanding your Raptors Computers and you'll find the correct description on error codes.

So here's the link to:

I have been reading through the 250+ pages per year in the past couple of days on and off on all 4 years starting with 2010 1/2 to 2014
They all have the same info except each year has added different/newer vehicles.

You cannot believe how much more complicated these computer systems have become in the past 4 years.
Between the PCM, TCM, BCM and monitoring system I didn't even know about, it's crazy.

I'm also trying to get a concrete "Drive Cycle" procedure specifically for our Raptors.

I have for years stated that fuel trims cycles 50 miles and a complete cycle with transmission strategizes are 300 miles.
This is what an engineer at SVT told me 3 1/2 years ago.

But I have also learned that the 300 mile statement is 6 Drive cycles,
it would that that long to clear serious transmission error codes.
It's all in the PDFs in Ford's Technical Service Information, on OBDII Theory & Operation.

I know Yukon Joe posted something up somewhere, I cannot find the link at this time.
I've never had to do all that when I had a wrench light pop up or check engine lit come on.
But I'm using a certified Ford Tune.

It's simple if you don't have any error codes stored on the PCM that is!!! And the ambient temperature is between 35 to 90 F

If you have, a battery disconnect is involved.
A cold soak time is required for up to 6 hours in a drive cycle if you have certain error codes stored for more than one drive cycle.
It can take multiple drive cycles To clear them as well.

why wouldnt an oem tune work just to pass inspection? anything other than maybe throwing a code for the rear o2's seeing too much flow....i thought YJ just passed on the stock tune

I haven't heard anyone that did.
I don't think the rear O2s will ever give a correct signal to the PCM,
That's why their party Tuner just turn them off and wouldn't be able to pass with them off.

i know they are shut off thats why u cant pass with a basic tune, also the reason i made the thread in the first place lol. why wont the rear o2's give the correct signal tho? if its only flow i think i have a way around that.

My understanding in layman terms, is the exhaust gases scaveng too quickly to heat the O2s up in the time the PCM reads the signal, this is one way your government can control people from doing mods.
And that time allotment is something that cannot be changed by anyone.

Ok now that one makes sense. I wonder if thermal coating will help to hold heat in and help or hurt this.

Maybe I missed it MFT but do u run headers?

I did pass PA emissions on stock tune. Thus was a week after the LT headers where installed. Although, I was worried when I was doing the drive cycle that the check engine light would come on. Luckily it didn't.
Recently I went back to stock tune to take the truck into the dealer for a whining pulley. The light came on almost immediately.

So how does a performance tune trick the computer to believing the rear O2 sensors are working properly? Thus not throwing a check engine light? I would think you could still pass emissions on a tune with no current codes, no check engine light and all readiness codes set to ready status. (At least that is my theory).

a tune just shuts the rear o2's off. thats why it wont pass inspection because the o2's never ready. im going to try to talk to KHCDave about this tomorrow as i know he has headers and lives in ny.
