I have a 2018 Super Crew with just about 3000 miles on it. I burn mid grade, 89 octane and have a Borla Atak Exhaust on it. Love the truck. The last three tank fill ups, when I leave the station the truck back fires loudly until I stop and shut it down for a while. Once it is restarted, no back fire and performs very well. Anyone else running into this issue? Should I be worried about it? Last Saturday, the backfire was so loud it had dogs on Main Street howling!

I get the same at every fill up with 93 octane, once I take off accelerate to 40-50mph then let go the gas pedal and it back fires 2-3 times then it stops! Got the Borla S-type! Got 18,800 Miles! No issues

I know some of the 3.5s in F-150s are known for fouling plugs... Not sure if the issue has been addressed in the newer or Raptor variants, but bad plugs could cause the misfire/back fire.

I have the exact same issue after every fill up. I will get a few backfires for the first few miles when coasting to a stop and then the problem goes away until the next fill up.

I have a Corsa Extreme, and thought the issue was with the Pedal Commander i had installed and posted in the Pedal Commander thread. Since removing the pedal commander its done it once in about 800 miles but I can't say if it was after filling up. All my backfires happened at moderate speed, 15-35 mph and coasting.

Im wondering if the backfires are always there and just more noticeable with the modified exhausts. Jeff-ohio, do you have a modified exhaust as well, i was thinking i saw one of your threads addressed some resonance issue.

I’ve noticed the phenomenon on my bikes before, where the backfire or popping on decel is much more pronounced with high flow or no cats, and a less restrictive exhaust. I was on a dyno once after some engine mods on one of my bikes. The initial run was great, but on deceleration the bike was shooting flames 10-15 feet out the back.

I asked if I could keep that feature but the tuner said my a/f was way off. No.

You say it’s after fueling.
I have the FOMOCO touring. SPD worthless adapters, CAI, Tune, intercooler...

No backfires.

But I’m wondering if your isssue isn’t a temporary lean condition related to some kind of vapor lock issue with your fuel filler, neck, etc.

I do have a modified exhaust (Corsa Xtreme).
