In defense of the truck that I posted, pictures of the final setup below. Not what I would do, but if that's best for how he uses his truck, more power to him.

Hey - may not be a desert bomber, but it is a purpose-built Raptor and I think that's pretty cool.

Expedition truck? Absolutely!!!!

That was my thought process as well. The picture I first posted was of the flatbed when it wasn't done yet. Figured I should share the final photos to show what it turned into. Like you said, it's purpose-built. I'm sure it doesn't fit on the trails nearly as well as a Tacoma would, but he's got a V8, a Raptor, and something different. I think it's a cool little project myself.

I like the idea of an expedition Raptor, I was looking into the bed-tents at one point. The sticking point for me was my less than stellar mpg.

I'm building an Expedition Raptor. I plan on using it for when I PCS (hopefully to Alaska).

I don't think I would go to same extent, but I believe @dotcomrade had it right when he had this rack built.

Though I think a purpose built prerunner with an expedition trailer would be more in the direction I would go if I lived in Southern California.
