Wanted to replace air filter after off roading,
Purchased one from home depot part “FA-1883”
When attempting to replace it the housing of the filter does not close properly. Seems the black rubber too thick im not sure

Anyone has any advice, i tried forcing it to close but it would not after many tries. So i placed old one back.
Should i return and order from walmart or another place like rock auto?

I double checked part numbers on both filters and everything matches

you just gotta jam it it. That's how my explorer is also. Every time i get a filter for the explorer, the rubber is always a issue and hard to close the air box. I haven't changed mine yet but im guessing it's gonna be the same process as my explorer.

The rubber seal on the filter will compress.

I have a hard time fitting those tabs on the air box cover. One of them is angled and a female dog to fit.

Just order 10 of the Fram now and keep them in the garage for when you need them. The Fram is just as good as the OEM and it’s $8.

Might as well throw in a few cabin air filters too. I also got a few pairs of wiper blades, spare spark plug, spare ignition coil, spare fuses and a bunch of the motorcraft oil filters. If you wanted to go with Motorcraft wallmart sells them cheapest.
