iPad question?

im somewhat new on here, I was browsing some mods and I seen IPad installs? What’s the advantage? Curious?
I have a 2014 that I swapped my Sync 2 to a Sync 3 and now I have Apple Play and I didn’t get the Nav version of Sync 3 even though I had Nav in my Sync 2. I figured since apple play will show my maps directly from my phone why buy the Nav version and pay to update maps all the time.

Sorry if I sound like a newbie. Just curious why and if there are any advantages?

phone and tablet maps are a celluar based service so if you lose cell service you lose nav. wont be an issue if you never go to places where theres no cell service. the nav in the truck is gps based so as long as you arent in a cave you will always have a connection. it just needs a clea view of the sky to work.

Ahhh I gotcha. I just use apple play and use my maps off phone
