I think the HIDs on my 13 are great. You can flick between low and high beam as much as you like without destroying them- it's just a shutter that moves back and forth. The lamps and ballast are not affected. What destroys the HID ballasts is turning them on. Every time they power on, you kill that ballast a little more. So the people in front of me at Starbucks just have to suffer, I'm not turning off my HIDs to ease the ball of fire in your sideview mirror.

Agree.
The shutter mechanism is another thing to worry about though. I try to use it as little as possible.

Me as well- but I wouldn't say it damages them either. Probably good to use it every now and then to keep it moving.
