Airraid CAI question

I did figure this out. Instructions are wrong. Build the entire system outside the truck so you can get filter on completely flush, then install it as a single piece.

UPDATE:

I finally got my truck out to CORE today to really pound the track. I was there for about 2 hours running the truck hard, getting lots of air, and climbing some serious hills. When I got home, I went to check the Airaid CAI for water leakage (there were puddles on the course and it rained all the way home). The filter was SITTING in the bottom of the air intake. Sure enough it had fallen off completely. It was seated perfectly flush and tightened down really well. I find this ridiculous and aggravating.

Surely this is a common problem for any rough driven Raptor with this filter. I notice that some of the CAI's (like Hennessey) come with a metal hanger that attaches to the filter and then to the air intake box (using a stock bolt location). This completely supports the weight of the filter (see photos).

Does Airaid have a fix for this??

I'm wondering if I could make my own support hanger.

I had this same problem at TRR - Aggravating as hell. Spent way too much time worrying and checking it. I think that anyone that has not had this happen with AIRaid is not pounding the shit out of their truck offroad lol. Was going to put OEM back on for offroad adventures which would be a pain to deal with every time. Now I am just going to make that bracket. Seems like such an easy solution. Thanks for the pics and to Ducatisps for bringing this up again.

I've sent the link to this thread to AIRAID and asked them if they'd like to provide comments or suggestions.

I wouldn't use a bracket to hold the air filter in place when all that's really needed is a piece of stiff closed-cell foam and some double sticky-back Velcro. Even a piece of styrofoam would do.

I have this and after the first run at Texana I noticed the airfilter had popped off (i had tightened down the clamp). I reinstalled and ran the second loop and same thing. Seems every time it keeps popping off.

Looking at it it appears that I cannot get it flush on the bottom of the mount.

My question is, do you mount the feeder tube to the box side, then the filter to that, then install it in the vehicle, or do you install the tube into the box side, install the tube then install the filter (which I did).

having this thing fall off sucks. I need to get this remedied.

How long did you have the AIRAID before you had the issue with the filter? I am thinking there may have been some mold release inside the flange that might be causing that.

We have had this kit and design out since 2010, and have NEVER had any reported issues of the filter falling off, on or off-road.

Take off the filter, clean the inside of the flange real good with brake cleaner, and that will give it a better bite. Also, just go snug, don't over tighten the hose clamp or that will force the filter to fall off over time.

I have had my AIRAID CAI on my 2011 Raptor for many months and I have not seen any tendency for the air filter to come loose. I can only suggest that you double-check your installation to make certain that you have followed the installation instructions properly.

CAbimmer may be onto something if you bought the oiled filter. Use some Simple Green to clean the inner surface of the filter's mount and the outer surface of the intake tube to make sure they are not oily, and then wipe the soap off thoroughly with dampened cloths. (Soap is slippery, too.)

Once you have checked your installation vs. the instructions and have assurred yourself that you've done it correctly, I would call AIRAID. They're very, very helpful and forthcoming.

My Airaid was delivered on 6/19/12 and installed on 6/20/12. My 2012 Raptor was 2 months old with 2,000 miles at the time of install.

This Saturday, 7/7/12, was my first off-road trip with the new CAI. My install was done without any issues. I had read about the falling off issue, so I made sure it was mounted flush, and the clamp was nicely snug.

I was actually in disbelief at the claims of other people saying it fell off. I assumed they didn't install it flush or tight enough. Mine seemed like it wasn't going anywhere.

However, I was extremely disappointed when I found it lying on the floor of the intake box. Yes I was driving it hard for 2 hours on the race track, including berm after berm. But I have to keep it reasonable because I don't have the suspension yet to really push the truck.

I can picture the weight of the filter bobbing up and down causing it to eventually ease its way off. The tube coming into the air intake should have a lip on the end - I think that would help this from happening.

Why would I use foam and velcro? This should not be a problem in the first place. And there was no dirt, oil, or mold to clean off, and the filter is a dry filter.

I would love to hear Airaid had a solution. Can a small number of Raptor owners on this one thread be the only people with the same issue?

I know they are good people, and their customer service has been very helpful in all the reviews I read. I have not contacted them on this issue, so that's my fault. But it seems my issue is not a one time event.

Don't mean to "ThreadJack" but I just ordered my 2013 SCrew and want my CAI when the truck arrives, will this kit (401-272) drop right in the same as a '12 or are we still too early to tell?
