Is the install kit necessary?

I'd hate to order just the adapters and end up destroying the OEM gaskets taking it apart and have the OEM studs be too short or something

What would 91 octane have to do with it?
Very mixed reviews on this upgrade. Ill wait for more info before I consider ordering.

I'd say at $90 it's a no brainer to just buy it but that's just me.

Looks like from the F150 thread they are quite a pain to install. Just FYI

They do sound difficult to install. But honestly if they did add those types of gains without a tune it would be WELL worth it. Probably not something that would be seen for a warranty issue so cheap hp for the money and hassle. Problem is reviews have been very mixed on results.

The link posted on page two of this thread was to another forum where the adapters were supposed to be tested back to back on the same day, same truck and same dyno. However that never happened.

I can't comment on anything other than what I posted. I did read that once installed the exterior appearance of them installed looks like factory so unless a tech pulls that joint apart they would never know. And honestly with the techs I have seen, they probably wouldnt even know if he had it in his hand. Once more people get these I'm sure we will get a better understanding of its potential. I don't know if the install kit is needed or not but for roughly $200ish total it seams like a no brainer even if the gains are minimal. I know for sure I have blown $200 on dumber things but the return of investment if the claims are correct, is huge, even before a tune. Once it's proven to work or not, if they are proven to work I'm sure people would pay double for them. Can't gain that much power from anything else at that price.

Just a FYI I am in no way connected with the company(other than the owner asking to be my friend on FB after commenting on a post about it). I am simply passing along info as i read on the media sites.

It was asked what 91 has to do with anything. I can't honestly answer that for 100% because I'm not sure if the EcoBoost has knock sensors. But if it does like the 5.0L, that I own, the knock sensors are used to listen for knock, way before you can audibly hear it. There used to pull timing if knock is heard so detonation doesn't accur. They also can ADD timing if no knock is heard. So the 4 extra points of octane above 87 "could" allow for advancing the timing to gain more power.

I didn't see that the gains posted were from an Evo. I agree about the price, if it produces that kind of power I'll be all over it. But I'll wait until I see what gains if any it produces on the Raptor motor before I venture there. Just my opinion of course.
