Default Low Down on the ICON Ford Raptor 3.0 Remote Reservoir Coil Over w/ Compression adjust

ICON Vehicle Dynamics is known for its extensive research and development put into every product; the revolutionary outcome of this research is what sets ICON apart from the off-road industry standard. The Ford SVT Raptor was the first production truck, designed & built, to bridge the gap between a standard street “pickup truck” and an off-road pre-runner. ICON Vehicle Dynamics new 3.0 Performance Coil-Over Shocks for the SVT Raptor were rigorously tested both on- and off-road for several months to enhance the overall performance and ride quality.

The engineers at ICON Vehicle Dynamics took a different approach to position sensitive performance in our 3.0 front coil over shock. Instead of bypassing a small internal piston at the cost of poor control, road holding, and cornering like a traditional internal position sensitive shock, our shock starts with a true 3” main piston that has robust features such as digressive rebound and flutter stack compression. This combination produces outstanding control, great response, and unparalleled ride performance. To achieve even more control for extreme off-road use, we added an additional internal hydraulic system (much like an external mounted hydraulic bumpstop) that produces the extreme forces required during the last 40% of travel to achieve maximum bottom out control. These multiple stages of compression and rebound have been tuned independently to maximize overall performance of the Ford SVT Raptor front suspension. For owners who wish to optimize the ride specific to his or her liking, the front coil-over shocks are equipped with an external, “Easy to Adjust” Compression Damping Control Valve, that is effective for the entire stroke of the shock. This compression adjustment valve offers you 10 high resolution settings, each bringing a true feel difference from soft to firm.

Key Features:

- 3.0 OEM Replacement Remote Reservoir Compression Adjustable Front Coil Over Shocks

- Internal Hydraulic Bump Zone Designed for Maximum G-out Control in the Last 40% of Travel

- Easy-to-Adjust High Resolution Compression Adjuster Offers Fine Tuning Adjustments For All Types of Terrains

- Direct Bolt in to OEM Location and Optimum Reservoir Positioning for Superb Heat Dissipation and protection

- Nitrogen Charged 6063-T832 Aluminum 10” Remote Reservoirs that are Precision CNC Honed & Hard Anodized

- Adjustable Ride Height from 1 – 3.5” of Lift

- ICON Engineered Eibach 3 5/8” ID High Quality Chrome Silicon Steel Springs that offer increased travel and performance

- Multi Stage Cad Plated Finish with Polished and Anodized Top Cap / Rod Ends

- Com 12 Teflon Lined Bearings Ensure Maximum Strength and Durability

- Oversized 1” Heavy Duty CNC Machined Shock Shafts

- Extended Droop Travel and Increased Overall Performance on and off road

A few Pros to using an ICON Ford Raptor 3.0 Coil Over shock:

- Hi Resolution Compression Adjuster - Fine tuning external adjust ability to dial in the ride for your specific needs. Also is a Anti-Cavitation valve.

- Full size actual 3” piston - This is the main piston that operates the entire stroke of the shock

- Position sensitive - Translation to the ICON Coil Over - An additional internal bump zone for the last 3” of travel to control bottoming and kicking. This bump zone is split into (2) 1.5” zones, and when combined with the damping of the main piston, you have 3 zones in both compression and rebound all with unique characteristics appropriate for the range of travel the shock is in.

- Unlike an internal or even most external bypass shocks that start with overly stiff piston valving, then "defeat" the piston by "Bypassing" fluid through a hole or pop off valve, the ICON system creates position sensitive control by adding piston area when force is needed rather than subtracting from an overworked small piston to make ride tolerable. In bottoming zones the ICON system has 119% more working piston area than an internal bypass and 49% more in the ride zone

- Digressive rebound - The main 3” piston incorporates digressive piston geometry. This allows the shocks to have better low speed control without compromising high speed flow. this creates better stability in a fast lane change type of maneuver and quicker chassis recovery from large hits.

Glad to see that we have an ICON Rep here to answer questions.
1-What is the amount of travel that the ICON shocks have, also is it more than stock Fox?
2-Adjustable ride height from 1-3.5" of lift. Does that mean 1-3.5" over the stock stock height?
3-It has been stated by a vendor that the combination of ICON shocks and ICON UCA's will give 3/4" more droop over other setups available?
4-Are they ready to bolt up from the factory and if so would they level the truck from front to rear or would a special wrench be needed to do so and would that need to be done before instal or after?
5-What can I expect from the adjustment knobs, how soft is softest and how hard is the hardest?
6-How does the finish hold up to weather and road salt? We have seen that the Fox shocks do not hold up well in this circumstance.

1- You are looking at a 3/4" droop travel gain with Stock or the ICON Billet Uniball UCA. Not a ton of travel to gain because Ford used most of the factory travel right out of the gate. You will need to look at adding longer upper and lower control arms for gain more significant gains in actual wheel travel.

2-Adjustable ride height from 1-3.5" of lift. Does that mean 1-3.5" over the stock stock height?
Yes you can adjust from 1-3.5" over stock and still have good performance out of these shocks....they will firm slightly at the tallest adjustment, but nothing that would be considered uncomfortable by any stretch

3-It has been stated by a vendor that the combination of ICON shocks and ICON UCA's will give 3/4" more droop over other setups available?
#1 answers this question....travel gain is the same with stock or with our Uniball UCA's. The biggest reason to run the ICON Billet Uniball UCA is the on vehicle alignment adjust-ability for a very precise alignment, the strength of the uniball and over all 6061 billet arm, and our uniball cover cap for uniball protection

4-Are they ready to bolt up from the factory and if so would they level the truck from front to rear or would a special wrench be needed to do so and would that need to be done before instal or after?
They are ready to bolt up and are preset to level the truck.....granted every truck is slightly different from the factory, but it will be right there overall. You can use a spanner wrench and adjust them on the truck to fine tune the lift height before you get it aligned, that is the great thing about this style aftermarket coilover. We would always recommend getting the front end aligned if you make an adjustment down the road as well.

5-What can I expect from the adjustment knobs, how soft is softest and how hard is the hardest?
I think that review in the suspension section was a good explanation, that's an end user that is involved in the raptor community telling it how it is. In terms from us there is about 30-40% range of adjustment throughout the 10 clicks. Remember there is an internal bump zone in this specific shock to help control extreme G-out so adding to much compression would not function properly when you hit that internal bump zone

6-How does the finish hold up to weather and road salt? We have seen that the Fox shocks do not hold up well in this circumstance.
We have a multi-stage CAD plating process and the black parts are polished and anodized. Finish should hold up well. We will likely have a Neoprene Shock cover available soon for an optional level of additional protection that would velcro on for use during the winter and extreme offroad conditions protecting the front coil over coils and shafts.

Hope this helps let us know if you have any other questions or feel free to give us a call.
