100% not. If that was the case the transfer case would eventually go dry. There is actually a tsb for this and all they do is remove and lube

Again. I forgot what he said but I might just do that after all. Would I have to take the entire drive shaft off?

Yeah. 4 bolts, slide it off, apply liberal amounts of grease to splines and reinstall
