Urea injection is certainly not new. Mercedes has been using it, iirc, since 2006, and it works wonders to clean up the exhaust.

I wonder how Ford has programmed the computer to react when it detects a low urea (Diesel Engine Fluid, DEF sounds stupid) level. Rumor has it that on 2011 HD GM's, the computer will significantly cut power.
