My '14 scab reached 2000 miles on the clock and it was time to change the oil and filter.
I prefer doing my own maintenance.
I went with Mobil 1 full synthetic and a Motorcraft oil filter.
I did not remove the skid plate. I removed the access door though.
I had read on this forum that using tin foil works good to keep the oil off the skid plate and thus keep clean up to a minimun. So I tried it and it worked great.

The Motorcraft filter has a geometry at the end of it that is unlike most filters.
I would recommend that you pruchase a socket style filter wrench (3/8 drive) that fits the geometry of the Motorcraft filter.
I also use a product called "Clean Funnel". These work great too.

I filled it up with 6.5 quarts and started it up, then I shut it off and let it drain back down, then filled it to the correct level on the dip stick.
The owners manual was spot on at 7 qts exactly.

Was the factory oil filter torqued on there pretty good?

Let me tell ya. That SOB was on there good. It was not fun.
I gave that factory filter a verbal whipping like you wouldn't believe.

It works great skyscraper.
Did you pop open the relief cap? It will pour right out when it is open.

Oh no I meant it drains into that pan slow. I made the mistake of using it under my 6.7l cummins and almost had oil spill everywhere! I had to put the plug back every min so that it could drain through the gray screw on top.

Btw: bedrug and bakflip looks great! That's the same setup I want to go with

You're right. LOL
It was scary slow. I kept an eye on it. It started to fill up quick on the top.
I thought I was going to have an oil slick mishap.
But it drained into the pan before it overflowed. Thankfully.
I had seen another one just like it but with out the top. I may get that one.

You'll be very happy if you go with the Bakflip and Bedrug.

This is what I used to get the factory oil filter off.
I purchased it at Napa auto parts.

Just FYI, I have that same oil pan and the cap on it is crap. It will break and leak. Just watch out for that

It's not top quality that's for sure. I wouldn't place this drain pan into my vehicle at all.
I take the drain pan and dump the used oil into a 2 gal gasoline container, which is much better quality.
Then I take the gasoline container to the local auto parts store for disposal/recycling.
I went down and bought this drain pan today. I need to donate the black oil pan to somebody now. LOL
The new one has an open top. I will not worry about it overflowing now.
