Great thread. I carry spare heims, wheel bearings, zip ties, duct tape, tow straps, D-ring shackle, spare fluids (5 quarts trans, 1 quart PS, 2 quarts oil), socket set (SAE and metric), combo wrench set, screwdrivers, adjustable crescent, small hammer, needle nose pliers, channel locks, and vice grips.

I also have a jack mounted in my bed, and a 2.5 gallon plastic jerry can full of water.

I wish I had a good enough reason to justify having all that spare stuff with me! Florida offers limited offroad opportunities to say the least... because it's basically nothing but pine trees. Don't let any pictures you see fool you.. i don't carry much with me but the things I've used most is tape a machete and a shotgun. And a towel and swimming trunks lol. Essential items to have at all times

What is a proper break strength for tow straps. I read somewhere in the forums here that 2-3x vehicle weight is good. The super crew weights around 7000 so a 14-21000+ strap. Is this correct? Also does anyone know a good shackle hitch receiver as well as a good size shackle. Just searching on amazon I'm finding 3/4" and 7/8" shackles. What does everyone use?

Here is what I was looking at.

Receiver:

Shackles:

Factor 55 hitch receiver and use non Chinese shackles (Crosby, etc). Buy American, recoveries can go south quick.

Thanks Truckzor! I was looking for one made by Curt, but I couldn't find it! Do you know if they sell the Shackle individually as well? I'd like to have two.

McGrath do you have a recommendation on the tow strap as well that is American made, or one you have experience with that has proven itself?
