any advice on engine compartment cleaning?

Black beauty needs it. Bad.

I've always been told to keep the motor running while blasting it with the hose.

Multiple applications of Adams all purpose cleaner and a fe brushes. Then hose and repeat.

Here's what I've done with great success:

1. Go to DIY car wash place with sprayer and foaming brush (bring quarters)...

2. Keep engine running

3. Open the hood

4. Look for the under hood electronics

5. Note to self: Avoid under hood electronics directly

6. Spray (water only as I don't want to spray soap and then spray again with water) under hood and engine

Done!

I haven't had to do this on this truck yet, but on my previous vehicles I would take it to a local car wash and have it steamed cleaned. Always made it look brand new, never had any problems, but like I said that was on different vehicles.

On a serious note, cover electronics with plastic bag, engine running, no pressure washer, use "mist" setting, agitate with brush, rinse and repeat.
