Are there any "weights" attached to the factory exhaust?

Yes the harmonic isolater is attached.

Guy the other thing Ford did to kill sound is to kill a little power. It is the area of the exhaust that could yield some gains even when stock (but at the expense of drone):

I wonder if any of the aftermarket systems have harmonic isolaters attached? Ford spent an assload of money designing that factory system. As much as I would like to see someone improve on the sound and make it sound less Honda Accordish none of the aftermarket companies have Ford's budget. Someone needs to sacrifice their factory system and mess with it piece by piece. There are way too many variables that will affect the sound.

I think this is more about uncorking the OEM exhaust while having no drone and less about making the 3.5 sound good.

Yes

My goal was to recover the 15-20 horsepower that Ford had to muzzle to quiet the drone.

I don't care if it sounds like a V6. I just wanted the extra horsepower. What I can't tolerate though is drone.... tuba-like drone... it was so bad it ruined the time and money I put into making the factory stereo sound nice.... because I could no longer hear it without horrible distortion from the drone.
