Is Towing mpg really this bad?

After Hulk Hogan ripped Gawker a new one, iirc Jalopnik got bought by some other Trump hating media company. **** those guys.

You guys make me laugh, this is my 2nd Raptor and I love the performance, looks, comfort etc. BUT I want to tow a measly 7K a couple times a month! I DONT need a superduty! really is that too much to ask? I am guessing the masses who buys these trucks never take them offroad or tows? Oh, and my towing mileage sucks! its no better than the 6.2 gen 1. Lets talk about speed (seems to be a big hangup here) yea I tow at 70-75mph depending on conditions, Hell speed limit is 65!

I really don't understand this logic. The Raptor was designed for all the things the writer wrote about. It has a Tow/haul mode and tow back up assist and moderate tow ratings. It has a rock climbing mode along with a mud/sand mode.

But saying all this, the writer was expecting it to excel in the most extreme uneven terrain and navigate seamlessly through quicksand. Not many unmodified vehicles could accomplish those feats. I suppose he also wanted to define a new standard in towing MPG, which Ford did not provide any metric for. So this is a meh for me.

He was treating the Raptor like its a tow rig which it is not and then he was comparing the Raptor to built Jeeps which it cannot compete with in those particular settings.

The pic of the trailer hooked up looks like the Jeep is super far forward on the trailer. Weight unbalanced like that will add to the rear end squatting.

The weight he said was probably way off. That trailer (looked way over 2500 alone) with the jeep and his bed load was probably a lot closer to 6000 than 4000.

Did a little digging, and here is what I found.
Uhaul trailer comes in at 2,210 pounds (https://www.uhaul.com/Trailers/Auto-Transport-Rental/AT/)
1948 (stock) Willys comes in at a curb weight of 2,136 pounds (1948 Jeep CJ-2A Universal Jeep full range specs)

So, a bit more than he said, but not a ton (literally). Though, throw the rest of the cargo in the truck on top of that number and you're easily in the 5,000 pound range.

What's that Willy's ACTUALLY weigh, considering it ain't stock? Probably a bit more, but not a lot.

What's a bed full of tools, spare tranny and transfer case weigh, other extra stuff??

4cyl jeep or V8, engine wt alone. If not a V8, why all the spare stuff.

I'll stick to the close to 6000.
