If the Raptor version of the Eco comes in at 500hp...you might be singing a different tune. I would be. :mwah1:

Nah. Not me. Not for a V6. I got off the fence and bought my truck partially because of the EB rumors, as did many of the other guys on here.

That's the 2.7 ecoboost. Also the HO ecoboost 3.5 will be different from the current 3.5 EB

As far as I know they are all 60 degree turbocharged V6s with the same firing order and the same exhaust routing. Can't imagine them sounding much different.

The exhaust note can be manipulated with *gasp*.... new exhaust.

There is a reason companies like Ferrari spend millions a year designing their exhaust systems to sound like they do.

And no, not all EB motors are going to sound like that drift truck unless you want it to.

That's just not reality, though. Sure, you can change the volume and you can add or take away some raspiness or resonance, but it's not easy to change the exhaust tone. No one is going to spend millions of dollars making the EB sound good. And even if they did, what would be the point, it still wouldn't sound as good as a V8.

If you want to know what the truck is going to sound like out here in the real world go on youtube and give some EB F150s a listen. Mostly they are dead quiet. Guys are keeping them that way because they sound like shit. Even most of the 12 second trucks are quiet. The ones that aren't sound like milk trucks with a leaky on board air compressor.

Much more likely that Ford will fix this problem by piping fake exhaust sounds into the cabin through the entertainment system. Actually, I just checked, and that appears to be exactly what they are doing...

2015 Ford F-150 Fakes V8 Engine Noise in V6 Trucks

I have no idea why any car manufacturer would think its ok to pipe in fake engine noise, it makes zero sense. I really hope someone figures out a decent work around for the fake noise other than pulling fuses. Better yet Ford should have an option in the radio settings to turn the fake engine noise off.

I have listened to a bunch of EBs on youtube with upgraded exhaust and there are some that sound OK. I didnt say great because most still have a raspy, tuner/euro sound to it which isnt ideal on a truck like the Raptor. I think if some manufacturers got a little more aggressive with the exhaust they could get some good throaty noises that would go well with the next Gen Raptor.

My 5.2 Jeep didnt have any engine notes or exhaust notes when it was stock. You actually couldnt tell it apart from the straight six because it was so tame. Once I put on a custom Kolak 3" high flow cat, flowmaster 50 series, and 3" mandrel bent pipe to a 4" angle cut tip it gave it a great deep tone that it needed. It drones a bit on the highway but its a trail rig now so it doesnt matter.

If Ford or some other exhaust company got a little more aggressive and opened it up I think the EB could sound decent. I say decent because it wont sound as good or authentic like a v8 but I think it could get better than what it is now.

Go to YouTube and see for yourself. The 2.7 and 3.5 sound very different...also the gt 3.5 idle and rev videos are up and that sounds very different. I am willing to be Ford spent some time trying to make the HO engine sound better. If anything the turbo whistle sound be louder and that is pleasant for.most enthusiast

Did all you folks know that the 3.5 TT won the 24 hour Daytona Prototype class? Yes that's right. Ok, the heads I read were slightly modded....but still the basic engine.

Don't knock it yet fellas...this is a proven engine. I have faith in Ford, and I think they know what they're doing on this.

Slightly modded heads get you from 365 to 600+ HP?

I think what is happening is Ford is making bold, early technology moves to be the leader and head off fleet standards. But they understand there will be push back. So they are being very **** about the 3.5 twin turbo, developing it first as a 600HP race engine and making sure it holds up, then brutalizing it in real world tests. According to Ford the majority of the parts are the same between the race and truck engines, even most of the top end.(also makes racing cheaper) Undoubtedly to get to 600HP they are running more fuel, different valves, and ridiculous boost.
