There's a claim that this will kill the coil eventually. I read on another forum where a guy has made a PWM generator to do this so it won't kill the coil.

It's possible a resistor may accomplish the same thing, just not as efficient as a PWM signal.

But I think as long as you don't leave it on for hours at a time it would be ok.

Your right, I see it has a duty cycle that tapers off after 30 seconds. Those that want to mod around the factory parameters should probably use it sparingly.

Edit: I noted in the Forscan thread that the TCCM can be accessed, and possibly the "Not 2wd" parameter can be modified.

Hacked my fj cruiser locker so i could use it in 2wd. I just felt i was very capable of deciding when and how to use the locker. It is nice to have with 2WD.

The Electronic Locking Differential (ELD) field coil is fed via the Transfer Case Control Module, If the TCCM won't lock when you want it to (Due to mode/2wd/etc), you can always supply the coil 12V+ via one of your outfitter switches. I don't know the current draw for the coil, but the whole TCCM runs off of a 15 amp fuse, so it can't be much. Should be an easy mod.

Hey, do you happen to know the fuse location and number for the TCCM?

According to the Ford Technical Resource Center:
Battery Junction Box F40 (15A) provides Always Hot to the TCCM
Battery Junction Box F110 (10A) provides Hot when Start or Run to the TCCM

But I have found errors previously in the MY'17 Wiring Diagram's fuse listings.

How does one acquire access to the Ford Technical Resource Center?

At Raptor Assault they said the reason for no locking of the diff in 2WD is because of the available torque. It would quickly ruin the rear end if it was used.
