Hi everyone. 2014 Raptor with a Whipple Stage II kit. We have been having an ongoing surging problem that we cannot get rid of. Occurs around 5 psi of boost and seems for prevalent if under load (IE going up a hill). Had a second shop (Stillen in Irvine, CA) tear the whole install apart and they found numerous vacuum leaks. They put the whole thing back together and still have the surge... Vacuum leaks appear to be gone. Under vacuum, under 5psi, or full throttle no surging whatsoever. Just happens under load around 5 psi. Feels like the bypass is flapping. Anyone experience this and find a solution? I feel like we are all just chasing a ghost here and can't seem to find a definitive reason....

Any help would be appreciated. We are trying to figure it out with Whipple's assistance but at this point I am trying to find any information I can. It has gotten VERY expensive.

Sorry to hear that. @radelow It does suck when shit don't go smoothly.

Only things I can think of is how did you make the wire connection to the PCM?
My installer has done hundreds of SC and has found not to mess with the pins, he likes to soldier the wires 1 1/2 to 2 inches from the PCM plugs.
Everything is low voltage a weak connection is going to cause issues.
The TB connection has giving a few installers problems, may want to make double sure all is good and tight.

Your IWE are OK? No vacuum leaks down by the front wheels?

Keep us updated.

I have the same Whipple Stage II kit. I had surges and stalls. I fought it for a year. The solution was two-fold.
1. Get it dyno Tuned. The Whipple Tune had issue and they tried their best, but after 9 revisions I gave up and got it dyno tuned. Took care of the surges.
2. Vacuum Hose from the Throttle Body to the Evap Solenoid. It was routed too close to the manifold and too long. As the engine heated up the hose crimped over and killed the vacuum. Solution was to shorten the hose and reroute it.

Same

Hello. I have a 2012 and having the same exact issues.

It felt as if traction control was kicking in but not really.

Same conditions though. Going uphill and hammering down.

What kind of answer are you looking for??? A quick simple fix one!

Without knowing what kind of build you have no one would know where to start.
When did this start happening?
What kind of fuel?
What was the altitude?
Were you towing?
Are you running the latest firmware on you tuning handheld device?
When was the last time you flashed the PCM?
Did you do a battery reset?
Any error codes or CELs?
When was the last time you cleaned your MAF sensor?
Do you know if you have any vacuum leaks?
Is your serpentine belt tight?
Do you know the boost level when this is happening?
Do you know what your fuel Trim are, Short and Long, Banks 1 & 2
Have you called Whipple?
Have you done any Data Logging with them?

I mean, this can go on and on and on............

That's alright, I'll help ya all I can. You gotta start somewhere.
Plus this is an old thread the issue they had have been solved a year ago.
Don't know if they will come back and chime in again.

If you haven't called Whipple yet, they will ask these and more questions.
I would start an email to send to them with all your info and my questions answered.
At least as best you can.

There have been a handful of surging issues but everyone required a different solution.
It's certainly not typical.

do you have the whipple throttle body?
If so that is your problem right there. i had this issue and whipple made excuse after excuse when in fact the fix was chucking the TB and getting the ford racing one on. while I was at it I went JDM tune also. JDM tune was 100% better choice for me also.

my truck is faster and runs 100 times better with the GT500 throttle body on it right now and JDM tune. compared to whipple throttle body and their tune. the ford racing TB will be here in a day or so and it will be even better I am sure (25HP gain)

this is of coarse if you have the surging and stalling at light issues? you can fix the stalling at lights by drilling holes in the throttle body blades. to me thats rigged and truck still will surge
