Hello everyone:

Just a quick question: What is the difference between a Turbo Inlet tubes and and Downpipes. Is it worth it to do just the Inlet Tubes first and wait on the downpipes for later. Basically is it worth it to do just the Turbo Inlet Tubes?

Thanks.

So if you know anything about centrifugal pumps - they absolutely HATE to have the inlet restricted. The outlet can be restricted to much less detriment than the inlet. The turbo inlet tubes basically open up the inlet to a larger diameter which is a very good thing. You do NOT need to to downpipes (which are obviously the outlet) on these trucks - the OEM DPs aren't half bad and aftermarket DPs prove to make very little to no power.

tl;dr - yes to inlet tubes, don't bother with downpipes on this truck.

Thank you so much for that information!

Air flows through the turbos in the following manner. Please understand this is excluding the hot side charged air coming out of the turbo, I'm purely talking about intake to exhaust of the turbocharger only. There is much more to this system when you start to discuss the hot side charge pipes, intercooler, cold side charge pipes, intake manifolds, exhaust manifolds, etc.

Cold Air Intake > Boost Tubes > Turbos > Turbo Adapters > Catted Downpipes > Resonator > Muffler > Tailpipes

In short, boost tubes are in front of the turbos and downpipes are on the backside of the turbos.

That said, being that you're in California...there is not current a CARB approved boost tube for your truck. COBB's turbo inlet tubes are in process of obtaining their EO.

Do you notice or any proven fact these boost tubes actually increase HP--Just the tubes?

I did AMS inlet pipes, SPD downpipes, SPD turbo exhaust adapters

The AMS piping is 3" all the way to the turbo - but if you are using stock turbos, you have to use a reducer (come with the kit) to match the smaller turbo inlet - so you loose some of that potential gain. if you upgrade your turbos - it's a perfect straight through match.
The ported exhaust adapters were a noticeable change in power form the driver's seat
The downpipes, performance catalytic convertor, hard to tell - better exhaust tone.
