What happens if you don't change the cam phaser?

My Ford dealer replaced the Cam Phasers (2nd time) in Oct under an Emissions warranty. As long as it was for free I'm fine with it.

emissions warrnaty was that something you purchased? Based on total milage?

You can check your PCM calibration level via Forscan. This is how it shows for my 2019 (I had to have it updated after the dealer changed Phasers. They don't update it automatically after changing Phasers):

Thanks for the info. I guess after I do my cam phasers, I will need to give the dealer a call to see how much they will **** me to do the update.

No, I have an extended warranty, which was in force last month (expired now) but she said, Nope, we got this fixed under an Emission Warranty. Maybe its a CA thing?

Regarding that recall, I had the cam phasers changed once, and I have been told they must not have used the updated parts? Could this be the case? Also, as a novice, what do you mean by the new calibration? That sounds like a setting, and not a part?
The old parts haven’t been available since 2019. So almost impossible that they used “old parts”, but that speculation continues to run rampant on social media of course.

Program 21B10 is a PCM calibration update; it’s entirely responsible for the operation of the engine and VCT system. The original calibration was causing problems phaser wear due to a combination of duty cycle and oil pressure at hot idle. The new calibration corrects both of those issues.

Is there any benefit to have this PCM calibration update if the original cam phasers are in in the engine or does it only benefit the engine if the cam phasers have been updated?
