and then I introduce you to the wonderful power wall unit which store around 14 kw of power combined with lets just say 2 13.5 kw panel arrays this is more than enough to charge a Hummer EV to 80 percent within a 24 power period. In regulated utility markets it will not affect anything in unregulated markets you will need some sort of net metering to gain the full effects of charging these vehicles. The Silverado and Hummer are just two examples of trucks that can be charged off solar power and the power wall backup system will provide enough low charge at night to pick back up when you have solar power.

It beats spending 7-10 grand a year for gas on a Raptor when you can have all the natural produced energy you need to run the electric truck.
And the carbon footprint from the 3500 lbs of ni/co batts mined by slave labor in the Congo? F it right? I’m in the auto biz & metals recycling- cannot recycle the batteries. You can go after the co or the ni not both. Massive amounts of pollution @ the mining phase, the production phase, the refining phase. And that’s before we get into what happens @ end of life, understand- ZERO lithium ion batteries from EVs are allowed into N. American scrap processors, but this is what happens CONSTANTLY from just the lil bitty ones in power tools/laptops etc.

And no- we dont have anything close to “good” or “ample” energy storage. The scale you’re talking about is minuscule to the big picture. I know what I’m talking about when it comes to this issue- & I damn better should, I’m eyeballs deep in it as a career.

Most are Lithium Ion and Iron Phosphate, they have an extraction process which is carbon neutral for their production. I agree the amount of precious metals in them currently is very large and that has its consequences but the technology will catch up in a few years. Also you are not stating anything any EV car maker knows, it takes around 8k gallons of water to put out a Tesla fire.

What will stop the electric change over in vehicles is when he grid fails because of overload. Already in CA you can't charge your vehicle between 5 PM and 9 PM. They are forecasting brown outs this summer and electric vehicles account for maybe 6% of vehicles in CA. Wait until it reaches 50%

Your own solar charging station is a nice idea for those of us that have a lot of sun, but what about the cost? First buy a $ 60K vehicle, then a $ 10k charging station, and then 10 years later throw that vehicle away because the batteries are shot.

I wish someone would do a "lifetime" energy study on the ICE and electric vehicles from raw materials (including the mining of the ore) to death. My gut tells me the ICE vehicles consume less energy and produce less pollution over their life than the electric vehicles.

It is a combination effect, and the power wall with panels option is a 25k -30k project. It can power more than just the EV charging though. So your breakeven on gas for just the solar project would be around 5 years.

Texas and California have their own issues due to energy councils and deregulation. Live in a different part of the country and you don't have to deal with it.

Sorry not sold on "that it is good for the country". Junk yards will be full of EVs in 10 years. Talk about depreciation, who will buy a 8 year old EV? It will be almost worthless. They would have been better off pushing hydrogen power.

This is wrong in 10 years the battery packs will be smaller, more powerful, and cheaper. Economies of Scale and Scope. Also hate to break it to you all but dealerships don't have tons of new cars not due to supply but retooling all their facilities for electric. It does seemed forced and I get that but with mark up on Gen 3 Raptors and market conditions. The battery packs will be inter changeable and your dealing with motors that can go a million of miles before it will have to be rebuilt.

Cadillac Audi Volvo and basically all specialty brands will be battery powered before this decade is out.

Again it is a combination effect where a little here and there leads to a lot. Roughly 22 lbs of CO2 is produced for 1 gallon of diesel fuel burned. You are eliminating a lot of carbon dioxide.

Maybe something hydrogen powered is doable. Makes more sense to use that technology to me. But it’s not my focus.

I basically do not disagree with what you say. The problem is that they are pushing it too fast and not letting technology catch up. Today's EVs do not have replaceable batteries (at a reasonable cost, usually more than a vehicle is worth when it needs to replace batteries), and charging takes too long for a cross country trip. Today's electric grid can't handle millions of electric vehicles charging. Also, typical of Government, they don't think of all the ramifications of their decisions. Think of thousands of broken windmills and non recyclable blades. Why did they allow us to become totally dependent on China for solar cells? When you have a singular focus you miss a lot of things.

Any chance we could start a new thread to bash renewable energy? I like this thread for the cool shit people post.

Agreed. I was part of the derail. EVs suck unless you got a plaid. Let’s see someone post a pic of a sick ass boat please. Preferably a triple engine center console lol
