Trans died, replacement cost??

Even the rebuild parts are difficult to source. Rockauto has exactly 1 rebuild kit available, at around $600 delivered. They don't offer a complete transmission at all. I bet if a 6R80 was as easy to steal as a catalytic converter there would be LOTS of them on the black market.

Replaced the whole tranny. $3500 for a reman plus $500 to get it installed.

My buddy took the trans out and said the clutch packs were toasted. Him rebuilding it would of cost about $3k, so we agreed on a new unit.

Bummed because that was money for a new motorcycle...

So was this recent? So you aren't far off what mine was 6-7 yrs ago. Mine was $3300ish for a rebuild and re-install.

Yes, just last week. My buddy is a tech at Ford and was able to give me dealer cost on the transmission.

The local independent Trans shop up here (Ca Hi Dez) just quoted $3000-3200 for a Gen 1 Raptor 6R80 bench rebuild, including the TC. And he claims he can get the parts & knock it out within 7-10 days. I guess that's good news?

I ended up going to a rebuilder down the hill in fontana. They quoted $2600 back in February.
