FYI factory individual tire weight is 64lbs - I've been told that shaving 10lbs of rotational mass is equal to loosing 100lbs of dead weight. I don't know if this equation has any basis in fact but it does illustrate the drastic performance impact of either reducing or increasing rotational mass.



The clear winner is the BAJA T/A but they are $600 each. Dropping that 36lbs of rotational mass would feel like you gained ~22hp on acceleration and would also improve handling and braking.



I'm putting together wheel data as well that I will post later.

Great info... God I wish I could save up and get those Baja T/A's.... Unquestionably the best tire for our trucks hands down. The look is super unique too... Haven't found a single tire the resembles the Baja T/A's.

Also any word on Toyo's and Nitto's... Possibly the M/T's and A/T's respectively...

the OEM 17 rim with the stock BFG is 96 pounds..

I'm pretty sure I remember 1 pound of rotating mass being equal to 9 pounds of unsprung weight (anything suspended by the suspension) .... so its close..... 10 pounds increase in a wheel or tire would feel like 90 extra pounds in the back......

and dont forget, that 10 pounds on all 4 corners is like an extra 360 pounds on the truck somewhere....


With a 6,000 weight on the Crew 6.2 and 411 HP, thats 14.5 lbs per HP.... or .06 HP per pound.... so wouldn't the 36 pounds of rotating mass be more like an increase of 19.44 HP?

Its late, maybe thats wrong, but I bet its close.

Anyone know how long the Baja's would last?

I've heard they outwear anyother tire by 2x if not more... and the weight saving too... Making it a great purchase and worth the price.

Also, correct me if i'M wrong but adding so much weight in tires and "rotational mass" can't be great for the componentry... I mean Ford designed the truck for the stock BFG's.... So throwing on the BAJA TA's @ $600 per corner could actually improve the life of the truck.

Maybe this is just me trying to ration my next purchase...:hmm:

I was thinking about gas mileage too.
