Is it possible to drill into bed or the bed wall to add more convenient tie-down points or d-rings?

This is what I did. I have a bunch of rings for it and I find it really useful to have a way to tie down to the floor of the bed. The rails are flush with the ridges in the bed, you can put the rings anywhere, and they are very stout.

I added D-rings to the bed bolts.

Were you able to find stainless ones? I know the D-rings on my trailer get stiff as hell from corrosion. I just moved a bike for a friend a few weeks ago and I had to get use a screwdriver to get them started to move.

Maybe your friend should start his bikes more often.

No, I did not go for stainless, but I do hit them with white lithium grease periodically.
