Damn kids. We’re always mollycoddling them. ;););)

I has the factory retractable steps on my f150 Platinum and loved them. In our mid 60s, and in shape, it’s still a bit of a PIA to step up and in.

That said, I love the look of the stock running boards. Also, going with amp steps, unless I’m wrong, means having them permanently plugged into the OBD port which kinda sucks.

as for damage from rocks, install PPF in those areas.

Have had them on 2 trucks. Here is my now sold Gen 2 with them. Great step. Functional for the wife and kids. Never a single issue with them even in the ice and snow. Only downside for me was they needed to be plugged into the OBD port. I got a splitter so I could also plug in the Cobb accessport

Did you go with the XL or the extreme?
Just the XL. I do off road my truck in the Rockies, Moab and Arizona desert. I recommend getting some big mud flaps to reduce the debris coming off the wheels and use protective film in lower panels that catch a lot of debris. I paint and I will just do corrections when I think it is time to fix it. Also have a can of trim paint because the amps sometimes get scratches from people cleaning their shoes on them. Trim paint from NAPA matches exactly with the finish.

Not much off-roaring for me here in Atlanta. Some fly fishing and atv riding but nothing crazy at all.

You need to follow TORR offroad events and head down to Durhamtown in the fall!

I loved and hated the AMP steps on my Gen1 for two reasons. 1) Any time the truck got wet they’d stay in the lowered position inconsistently until the truck dried out…it was obnoxious to troubleshoot and I traced down every GD wire to try to figure it out. 2) because they aren’t running along the side of the truck, rocks would fly up from the front tires and clip the back fender and flare to the point there were chips all over both sides. I’ll stick with the OEMs on my Gen2.

I thought about power running boards, but not real hip on the OEM dependability track record. Not to mention the headache of getting them wired up, and working. I’m turned off by AMP due to the connection to the DLC port.

I know people are running them with no issues, but I would be the guy that has the problem. Just the luck I have.

I like powered running boards. I had them on my Lariat, but I don' t like that the Amp running boards are plugged into the OBD port all the time. I may do them down the line.
