Every time I have to get into the bed with the tailgate open, I remind myself to order it on my next truck. In fact, the bed is easier to get into with the bed closed and step up onto the bumper and climb over, than to get in with the gate open.....at least for ****** me.

I've seen some mods where you can keep the step and remove the pole so the tailgate is flat but do have to purchase the tailgate panel from a non-tailgate step one.

I did this. Pleased with it. You need to buy the panel and shorter screws.

I sometimes wish I had the tail gate step, especially when I need to load/unload and have to climb up repeatedly. If I had known about the pole removal mod, I probably would have gotten the tail gate step option.

Kind of like power windows in the old days. Always said I don't need them. Once I got them I could not do without them.
