So far its not bad at all, done a short stint on the highway without too much noise a little whissle but nothing that is unbearable. I'm planning on adding sound deadening to the roof at some point that should cut it out almost completely.

Looks great man! You've done quite a lot of work.

Thanks I'm loving the look and I'm almost at my goal for where I want the truck to be.

How is the bar mounted?

Here is a picture of the mount:

Toolbox update:

The passenger side box did not survive the last rallycross event so it was time to make them a little stronger! I added an exoskeleton frame to the front of the box. I will be adding one to the rear as well and possibly creating a couple of bars to link them across the bed giving me kind of a in bed basket for random shit.

Once the back frames are done I will probably take them and have the linex'd.

I've been looking more closely at some roof racks. How exactly does yours mount? And what is the brand on it? Thanks!

It's a Smittybilt rack model Defender 40404 with the AM-4 mount kit. This rack is for SCABs not Screws. I believe the Screw rack is the 50404 with AM-6 kit, but I would need to check.

Here are the install instructions for the mount kit:

http://www.smittybilt.com/docs/installation/AM-10.pdf

Basically 2 holes per mount, with rubber well nuts. I welded the hinge portion of the bracket up so that it would not rub on the roof due to some angles. I also used some silicone on the well nuts to make sure there is a good seal around them and upgraded the hardware to slightly longer well nuts and larger stainless bolts. It was on the truck when I climbed a very rough jeep trail for 3-4 hours in 4-lo loaded with a dog crate, cloths for 2 people for 2 weeks, traction mats, 2 chairs and 2 small tables. It did great other than the slight rubbing that is now fixed. There are no rattles, wind noise is not bad at all but you cant have the sun roof open over ~30mph. Also the sunroof is no longer able to tilt, I could probably fix this by raising it up on the brackets slightly if I really wanted to.

Guess it's been a while since I updated this!

Things that have gone:

  • WSI Tire rack
  • SDHQ Bed stabilisers
  • Light tower
  • Roll-x

New Things:

  • ARE Z-Series Cap
  • Custom front bumper using a recycled top tube from a trashed SVC Baja
  • Custom rear bumper
  • Rouge tire carriers

Loving the new CNC plasma cutter at the shop makes plates like this really easy to make:

Mocking up the lower tube:

At this point I decided I didn't like the design, and gave up for the evening.

Day 2, started by cutting out the receiver tube from the stock brackets, modelling replacements and CNC plasma cutting them from 1/2" steel plate, the results (including some gussets):

After this everything started moving pretty quickly and i didn't take to many pictures, but the final result:

I'm really liking that rear bumper. I like how the hitch receiver doesn't hang below the bottom tube. Your license plate will cover that expertly, and be there whenever you need it. Is the receiver and tow hooks flush with the leading edge of the tube? I imagine the receiver can be but the hooks cannot without blocking access to them. Hell of a nice shop too.
