81E27B65-AB47-435B-A9D7-5D2F1A644A27.jpeg Allow me to put this to bed. Every car or truck I’ve owned, in excess of 20, with the exception of my 2020 BMW M5 which has a carbon fiber roof, over the past 10 years, has had a sunroof. I’ve never had a problem other than a squeak here and there. They add light and openness. I had them on 6 Porsches where the supposed aficionados complain OMG you are adding weight to the worst place.

Back to my M5. I tell my son I bought an M5. He says and I quote, “Dad, you are my hero. That’s my dream obtainable car.” Nice to hear from a 32 year old kid who is an introvert and rarely shows emotion.

He comes over to drive it, takes one look and says “No sunroof?” I said it’s got a super nice, lightweight carbon fiber roof.

He replies, “You should’ve got a sunroof.”

In the blink of an eye I went from hero to zero

I have a sunroof, and I’ve had issues with drain tubes being impinged causing leaks when there’s heavy rains. If I had to do it again, I’d still get one. I don’t use it often but when I do it makes everything more enjoyable. Particularly for passengers in the back which can tend to feel a little closer phobic in the back.

Only a dumb hick like you would duct tape your roof. And who is Francis? I don't watch the Sewing While Pregnant channel, is that where you got that from?

Crash wrap is a better solution, use it both in and out and your golden.

I also don’t own just 1 vehicle, I have 3 and a work supplied car as well.

My ‘15 had a pano, never had an issue, but after seeing them going belly up over on the f150 forums, I decided my next one wouldn’t have one, I have had plenty of cars that have had them and have a new Blazer with a glass roof.

To each their own, I don’t miss not having it.

Shit breaks, sometimes that’s true, I only updated everything so I knew it was done and to the level I wanted, it may break, it may not.

The sun is shining and the wind is blowing, still glad I didn’t buy into the potential issue it may have caused down the road

There are several recalls for these things from other manufacturers for exactly this reason (Mercedes and Hyundai).

Sunroof glass does not require the same safety and durability testing that side or windshield glass requires. Currently there is no standard. My last car had a glass pano roof and, even though there was a class action suit and recall from that manufacturer, I had no issues with it myself. It's just a matter of time before Ford ends up having to admit there's a problem. They managed to get a class action suit dismissed recently but it'll eventually happen again.

    https://www.classaction.org/blog/dr...are-exploding-is-anything-being-done-about-it

Consumer Reports went through the trouble of combing through the NHTSA’s trove of complaints and found that Hyundai, Ford, Nissan, Kia and Toyota were among the automakers linked to the highest number of exploding sunroof incidents. Through 2017, 208 vehicle models spanning 35 brands and more than two decades have been linked to reports of exploding panoramic sunroofs.

On a semi-related note, about 12 years ago I came home from work to find my outdoor table glass shattered in exactly the same way as my pano roof. Nothing hit it, fence and screened enclosure were locked all day, and it just shattered on its own. Sometimes glass is simply defective. Ford doesn't want to admit this.

Ford knows there is a problem, this was acknowledged when they replaced my roof, it was replaced for defective weather stripping which would be harder to deny than glass breakage. For example, my STI has a thin windshield which break easily from small rocks. They sound like crystal as they explode, these windshields are a grand a pop and Subaru finally resigned the front whinshield in 2018. After replacing one through insuramce, subaru offered to replace the other one. Well I opted for the Pilkington aftermarket replacement and subaru sent me a yeti hopper.

Moral of story is that other makers warranty processes are a little easier but in your case it is a little more difficult since 99 percent of glass breakage is from something hitting it.

Irony...Calls someone a dumb hick and tries to imply said hick is a woman....actually proves "lighten up Francis" was accurate.

Days of our Lives ain't got nothing compared to this thread. That was 16 pages of goodness. It's got mystery, turmoil, contradiction, betrayal and plenty of anger. I'm watching this to the finish as I'm pretty sure the Tech was having sex with the SA, but it will actually be the GMs baby.
