    School me on trailer towing
I just bought an 18ft car hauler to haul my cobra with my raptor. How far forward should I have the car on the trailer for safe hauling? Also the trailer is rated at 7000 gvwr, I have two hitches, one rated at 6500gvwr that came with a ball to match. I also have one that came with the truck rated at 7000gvwr but it doesn't have a ball. Should I use the 6500 or find a ball to match the one that came with the truck?

Find a 7000lbs (or higher) ball.

    Next car positioning:

    1. Find the empty weight of the trailer
    2. Calculate the weight of the car and any thing else you want on the trailer
    3. Add these 2 numbers together (must be less than 7000lbs ;) )
    4. Work out 10% of the total weight.
    5. Build a tounge scale (or purchase one) Measuring trailer tongue weight with a bathroom scale
    6. Place the car and other items on the trailer, and weight the tongue.
    7. Now move the car backwards or forwards to decrease or increase the tongue weight so it is roughly 10% of the total weight
    8. Mark the wheel positions on the trailer so you dont have to play this game again.

With this load you should probably consider purchasing a weight distribution hitch to keep your truck level when towing.

alo to add to t_j, is it a crewcab or supercab? they have different towing capabilities. so you will need to get a final weight as well.

Definately get a WD hitch and ball rated higher. It helped towing my stang ALOT!

Here is where I have mine set and she tows great sitting there. I bought the trailer used from another mustang owner and the previous owner had already marked the spot needed.

Not he greatest pics, but you get the idea. The rear tire is just past where the sloped levels out.
