So this is the second weekend in a row the my roof mounted radio antenna has ripped itself loose. I know its from rowdy driving (that's not going to change) but what's the best solution?

I've seen people run larger antenna in the same spot with no issues.

NEFord,
My son just had the roof painted on his new 1997 F 350 crew cab long bed. The owner of the shop used a door hinge shim to reinforce the underside of the NMO mount to try to prevent the same kind of damage....

Good call. I was thinking a plate underneath would help.

Looks like the hole is too big or the mount was not tight enough. What kind of antenna are you running? An NMO mount can normally take quite a beating.

When I drilled my f150 roof, I had to waterjet a shim for the underside as the roof was flexing too much. I also ended up switching to a Larsen nmo150 due to the gasket style base which spread the load a little better.

You wouldn't by chance have a photo of that shim would you?

Also, see that you're in Simi, I'm in Thousand Oaks.

I don't, but I remember it being 2" od and 5/8" id, .080 aluminum.

Then it just had a slot on the side so you could slide it over the underside of the nmo.

If you can't find someone local to cut you one, let me know. I have waterjet access in van nuys.
