This is not entirely correct. Perhaps it varies by state. My wife was at fault for an accident in Georgia and the insurance company paid out for diminished value on her vehicle.

Also, most insurance companies have a third party assessment company determine the damage based upon photos. Once a body shop starts tearing down this Raptor, as many have said, it will be totaled.

The initial estimate for my wife's vehicle was $2,400 in repairs but once the total extent of the damage was assessed by the shop, it was $34,000!
Georgia may be one of the very few states that allows diminished value when the policy holder is at fault or there were other circumstances surrounding the accident we are not aware of. The policy premiums charged would have to be much higher in order to cover DV claims for at fault accidents in addition to having to repair the vehicles.

Geico has veteran's rates and have been much easier to deal with than modern day USAA. The only USAA insurance product I have left is a landlord policy on a rental and that should be gone soon.

Since I've had Geico:
Primary residence claim - storm damage. Adjuster found roofing nails in the gutter where winds had gotten high enough to lift shingles. New roof, no issues.

Wife was rear-ended while stopped waiting for a left turn. No issues.

Wife was side-swiped on a 3 lane road. Other driver was a liar, and I didn't have in car cameras yet. Lesson learned there since, I had to pay the deductible because the rookie cop did a lousy job on the crash report and insurance said they couldn't determine fault to both company's satisfaction.

Geico's premiums were significantly lower for better coverage, customer service has been spot on, and no dings on my rates for any of the claims. Word of caution on Farm Bureau: They are cancel happy in some states. They'll pay your claim without much fuss, but they will cancel your policy afterward. May not apply everywhere, but I've seen it happen to several of my friends.

Two of my kids who were on USAA recently went with Geico. One has had a claim settled. They say the same - that the rates are lower and the service is better.

Thanks CruiserClass

So, I know everyone either has the insurance horror story or knows someone with the horror story. In my case, a family member was insured by Ge!co and was rear ended by an intoxicated driver, also insured by Ge!co. They fled the scene, were later apprehended by law enforcement. Were found to be intoxicated but not charged with DUI. Driver had his license yanked previously, admitted to the collision and was charged with driving on suspended license, faulted with the collision.
Driver had minor injuries and had infant daughter in the car. Impact was ~35 mph.

Ge!co refused to cover the collision, with literally no explanation. A protracted legal battle ensued for over a year. Only after a lawyer was involved and rooked them for legal fees + cost of repairs + medical expenses would Ge!co pay up. There was zero ambiguity about fault in this collision, other driver admitted it and was covered by the same insurance company!

That company is made up of sub human pieces of $ h ! t. a pox be upon them and all of their kin.

I can hear the protestations now. “WELL, I’ve been with them for 30 years and filed 12 claims and there has NEVER been a problem” - ok, I believe you, insurance is a weird and corrupt industry.

And I’m sure your “Ge!co covered my claim with no issues” statement is true.
until one day it’s not.

Just as an example, when an uninsured idiot rear ended my wife, we couldn’t collect DV from our insurance company. They fixed the car, and that was that.

When an underinsured idiot hit my car, my insurance company fixed my car, and included the DV claim as part of their “bill” to the underinsured guys insurance. My car was fixed completely, and I received a pro-rated portion of the DV claim because we had reached his insurance limits.

On a third occasion, with someone who actually had proper coverage, my insurance fixed my wife’s car, passed the DV claim on to the insurance of the guy who hit her, and it was paid in full.

The key is that there needs to be an at fault third party for your insurance to go after. They could go after the individuals that are uninsured/underinsured, but my experience is that they don’t. They settle for some percentage and write the remainder off.

Your insurance is not going to pay you for diminished value. They will pay the guy that you hit for his DV claim though.
I had trouble getting past the first line. I would’ve worded that a little differently but thankfully she was ok in all incidents. Lol

I had a 2019 F350 Alumiduty that got t-***** at a fairly slow speed last year. Progressive's initial estimate was $4,800. I took my truck to a body shop that uses only OEM parts and had an aluminum "specialist." The cost to repair was over $12K. It involved the rear door, cab corner, bedside, and a new wheel.

As others have said, have a good body shop take a look and provide an estimate to USAA. That poor truck is definitely totaled, but it did its job. Glad you and your dog walked away unscathed.
