I haven't checked the book yet but once you've done your own oil change is there anyway to reset the oil life?

OIL LIFE
This displays the remaining oil life.
An oil change is required whenever indicated by the message center and
according to the recommended maintenance schedule. USE ONLY
RECOMMENDED ENGINE OILS.
To reset the oil monitoring system to 100% after each oil change
(approximately 7,500 miles [12,000 km] or 12 months) perform the
following:
1. Press and release the SELECT/RESET stem to display “OIL LIFE
***% HOLD RESET = NEW”.
2. Press and hold the SELECT/RESET stem for two seconds and release
to reset the oil life to 100%.
Note: To change oil life 100% miles value from 7,500 miles (12,000 km)
or 12 months to another value, proceed to Step 3.
3. Once “OIL LIFE SET TO ***%” is displayed, release and press the
SELECT/RESET stem to change the Oil Life Start Value. Each release
and press will reduce the value by 10%.

Any one know at what point the message appears on the display. My Raptor has 5,900 miles and oil is at 27%. Stopped by my dealer to make an appt at 5,000 miles but was told the truck will let me know when it is needed. But the service advisor did not know at what percentage it will come on to let me know.
Any help out there?

My dealer told.me that gauge of oil life works off a timer, not actually anything oil related just a timer. Sounds wrong to me. I don't plan on following it anyway. I'll stick with every 3000. Did my first at 1000.

It's just a timer the counts to 7500 miles. It doesn't actually keep track of how dirty the oil is.

Kind of off topic, but the dealer told me I did not have to due a early first oil change. What do you guys think. I am at 2K and thinking about dumping the oil and then dump it again at the 7500 mile mark and stay with the factory schedule. Thanks for any input.

Also takes into account time. Mine went on at 1 year even though I had driven less than 7500 miles.
