I am curious if the GEN3 5-link rear is heavier or lighter than the GEN2 leaf spring setup?

Id think the Gen 3 rear suspension would be slightly heavier. I don't know Gen 2 OEM leaf spring shipping weights but deavers leafs weigh 210 lbs (per RPG site).

Let's just say OEM is roughly 180lbs being less leafs. With the Gen 3 having coils, 4 link and pan hard would equal more than 180-210lbs.

Guess another way without weighing each part would be to compare curb weight of a Gen 2 vs Gen 3.

I just looked and Ford states the Gen 3 Raptor on 35s weighs 5740 and 5886 on 37s.

A Gen 2 Raptor Screw weighs 5684 (per C&D)

So I guess the Gen 3 is heavier lol.

I was thinking how much heavier or lighter possible the Gen 3 suspension is. Those link bars and pay hard rod is hollow. So it’s not as heavy as one would think. But the parts add up. The leaf’s seem to weight a bit. But there is shackles and blocks, etc. The interior probably weighs more to on the Gen 3. 12” screen, integrated works surface lol. Overall both gen’s are still close.

Roughly for every 100 lbs, it will equal 10rwhp for cars weighing 3000-4000 lbs. This is just a ballpark.

So Gen 3 weighs 56lbs. More....

Same hp torque...
With the changes in the hp and torque curves at lower rpms...

Not to mention, for every extra 100lbs of weight, you lose a tenth in the quarter.

GEN3 rear is lighter than the GEN2 rear by 11-12 pounds

Long freaking video below if you want to watch. Also, the GEN3 is a much softer ride when compared to the GEN2 live shock (2019 & 2020) according to this video. Lots of interesting in-dept GEN3 talk.
