Rear Camera Enhanced Parking Aids INOP

2014 SCREW 55,500 on the clock.

Out of nowhere, the enhanced parking aids—the colored bars that fill in green, yellow and red as you get closer to something—stopped working. The regular guidelines are still there, and the system beeps faster as you get closer to something, but the color bars don’t fill in anymore.

Dealer replaced the camera; no joy. We’re currently waiting on instructions from someone at Ford since the tech doesn’t know what is causing the issue.

It’s certainly not the biggest deal in the world, but I want things to function as designed.

Any ideas?

Just a shot in the dark, but maybe one of the sensors in the bumper went bad?

That’s what I thought. I’m not really sure why they thought the problem was with the camera unit itself.

Turns out the truck needed a software update from Ford and presto, everything worked again. No one seems to know why it stopped working in the first place, but the update fixed the problem.
